Critically praised as having "successfully helped develop a specific voice amidst a sea of talented vocalists" and "flawlessly tackling the score," Matty Mitchell (they/them) balances a multifaceted career as a traveling musical, traveling musician, and teaching artist. They received their bachelors degree in music education from Mason Gross School of the Arts (Rutgers University) and their masters degree in music performance from New York University. They studied with contemporary leaders in oboe performance (Matt Sullivan, Jonathan Blumenfeld, Nathan Hughes, Bert Lucarelli) and critically acclaimed jazz and classical pianists (Leah Claiborne, James Hillis, Andy Milne, Karina Bruk).
Having trained in professional orchestras and chamber ensembles, Matty’s performance background covers a wide range of musical styles and educational approaches. Matty has been celebrated for "aplomb playing" (Broadway World) and mindfully inclusive teaching approaches. Matty enjoys work in professional theatre and loves the opportunity to collaborate, create, and coexist through live performance. Matty can be found in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, most likely sight-reading piano scores, writing music, practicing yoga, and expressing gratitude for life.
